Chests - trunks

Once upon a time, it was believed that a single trunk could contain the entirety of one’s life. There exist various types of trunks: those with sturdy legs, trunk-beds for slumber, ornate wrought trunks, and many others. However, among the most renowned are the travel chest and the dowry chest.

In bygone eras, every bride was expected to possess a dowry chest, which were cherished heirlooms passed down through the generations. These chests were handled with the utmost care, often adorned with intricate ornaments and embellished with precious metals. Initially purposed as repositories for clothing, these chests held a place of honor in the bedroom, usually situated beside the bed. Traveling chests, on the other hand, were renowned for their robustness and were indispensable on long journeys, much like the suitcases of our modern era. Today, antique chests serve not only as relics of a bygone age but also as functional pieces within interior design. They often double as tables or dressers, seamlessly blending the old with the new.
